Color is power—and in Living Color Lab, campers learn to use it with purpose.
This immersive, hands-on camp dives deep into the vibrant world of plant-based color and sustainable design, giving young creators the tools to take on the fashion industry from the inside out. Through natural dyeing, upcycled textiles, and environmental storytelling, campers become part of a growing global movement that’s turning away from fast fashion and toward a future that is ethical, circular, and alive with possibility.
Every day in the lab is an exploration: of chemistry, of culture, of design, and of nature’s unmatched ability to produce beauty without waste. Campers extract rich, living colors from food scraps, leaves, roots, and flowers—transforming salvaged fabrics into bold new works of wearable art. With techniques like bundle dyeing, resist printing, and pH-shifting experiments, they unlock the full spectrum of nature’s palette right in the heart of the city.
At the center of the experience is indigo—the legendary blue dye that breathes history and transformation. Campers dip fabric into the indigo vat and watch as it emerges green, then oxidizes to blue before their eyes—a magical process that links them to centuries of traditional dye practice and resistance culture across the world.
This is not just about making beautiful things. Campers learn to trace the full lifecycle of materials, explore the true cost of color, and design with systems-thinking. They become eco-artists, color chemists, and young fashion revolutionaries—building skills that blend craft with consciousness.
